TIBET STORY
verde-independent-press-phoChildren's book author and illustrator Naomi C. Rose paid a visit to the Cottonwood Public Library on Thursday afternoon to read from her books and introduce those in attendance to a variety of aspects of Tibetan culture. Rose brought Tibetan Prayer Wheels and other unique objects - everyday items to practicing Buddhists in Tibet - to help illustrate the world that she writes about. She followed the engaging readings with a craft project for kids in the audience to experience and enjoy. The presentation was part of the library's ongoing theme for the summer, "One World, Many Stories." There are kid and teen activities planned for just about everyday at the library, check them out at www.ctwpl.info. VVN/Jon Pelletier

MESSAGE OF PEACE

Santa Fe Journal - Message of Peace
Kaune Elementary School first-graders Santiago Roybal, left, Angelique Manzanares and Michelle Ochoa work on their peace flags during an art class at the school on Wednesday. The flags will be displayed during next weekend’s World Peace Conference. Students from five area elementary schools created more than 300 peace flags modeled after Tibetan prayer flags. The project was organized and led by Naomi C. Rose, author and artist of Tibetan Tales for Little Buddhas.
